Croatia v England Betting Offers and Tips – England on quest to bring football back home

Differences in population and resources would suggest this clash is rather a mismatch but it’s looking like being anything but. Croatia have won every match so far this World Cup and another victory would see them overshadow their third place finish in 1998. England are themselves in high spirits after reaching their first semi-final since 1990. After so many years of hurt, Three Lions fans believe a long awaited international trophy could finally be theirs.

Croatia v England Preview – It’s coming home!

Gareth Southgate has had a big impact on this England side since replacing Sam Allardyce. He’s implemented his own refreshing ideas and this has helped transformed a perennially underachieving nation. His men were nervy as they scraped past Tunisia in their opening game of this World Cup but have looked far more relaxed since hammering Panama. They were unlucky not to beat Colombia in normal time but avoided any such drama against Sweden as they deservedly got the all-important second goal from yet another header.

The Three Lions have been a real danger in the air this tournament, particularly from set pieces. Croatia allowed Mario Fernandes to head home an equaliser in the 115th minute last time out. Against Denmark they also conceded after failing to head out a long throw into the box. It would be unfair to say this Croatian side aren’t resilient though as they have restricted chances for the opposition in all their matches so far. Their midfield has been excellent this tournament too but they are still lacking a reliable goalscorer unlike England.

Relevant Stats, Injuries and Suspensions

Gareth Southgate hasn’t had to face many injury concerns this tournament and there are no fitness problems reported ahead of this game. The same starting eleven that featured against Sweden is likely to be named meaning Harry Kane will be given the task of spearheading the attack once again. The Tottenham striker has six goals this World Cup although three have been from the penalty spot and one he knew nothing about.

Yellow cards have been wiped at this stage of the competition meaning the nine Croatian players who were on the verge of suspension are now safe. The Croats are not afraid of sticking their foot in and they’ll no doubt pick up a card or two here. Zlatko Dalic will be hoping that both goalkeeper Danijel Subasic and right back Sime Vrsaljko will be fully fit for this contest. Both were in discomfort against Russia and the latter was unable to soldier on.

Croatia will be looking for revenge after twice being thrashed by England in World Cup 2010 qualifying. Both sides are much changed now although Mario Mandzukic, who scored a consolation goal in the home fixture, is set to lead the line for Croatia on Wednesday. He opened his scoring against Denmark but has otherwise had no joy in front of goal this tournament.

Croatia v England – Relaxed England set for next challenge

England’s tightly knit group seem in wonderful harmony as they prepare for this match. Southgate has his full strength side available and they won’t be feeling leggy after a not overly taxing game against Sweden. England looked so dangerous at times against the Scandinavians and they should also create opportunities against a Croatia side who may have peaked too soon. This superior attacking threat, especially during set pieces means England should be backed for the win (4/6, Betfair) even if it’s unlikely to be easy. Jordan Pickford has been required to make some sensational stops in Russia so far but if England keep allowing shots to come in, they will concede here. Croatia haven’t failed to score this World Cup making both teams to score a good value bet at 11/10 with William Hill.
