Barcelona v Tottenham Tips and Preview, Champions League, Tuesday 11th December 2018, Nou Camp, Kick off: 8pm

Can Tottenham edge this must win clash in the Champions League and book a last 16 spot? They have a huge task in this visit to Barcelona, as they look to topple the top side in their group. While the Spanish champions are already through to the next round, Spurs are under huge pressure from Inter Milan in the race for second. Will Mauricio Pochettino’s side get over the line?

Stats, Injuries and Suspensions

Tottenham are set to make this trip without Davinson Sanchez, Erik Lamela and Mousa Dembele. Meanwhile, Barca have room to rotate after booking their place in the last 16. We don’t expect them to make wholesale changes, but a few squad players should get some minutes. That would make things slightly easier for Spurs, but the hosts do have an impressive squad to pick from.
The hosts also have an impressive record at home, as they’re unbeaten in 15 of their last 16 Champions League matches. At home in this competition, they’re unbeaten in 28 games, winning 26 with only Juventus and Atletico Madrid grinding out draws. Spurs aren’t going to have an easy time of things, but will they walk away with the points?

Barcelona v Tottenham Preview

The odds don’t suggest that Spurs will get the result they need, with Barca priced at 21/20 with Betfair to claim a victory. Meanwhile, Tottenham are 21/10 with Ladbrokes for the victory. We’d be tempted to edge towards the hosts here given their impressive winning record at home in the Champions League. The Catalans will be looking to finish up unbeaten, but rotation in defence could open up this game and offer Spurs an opportunity.
We can see this being a high scoring affair, especially after the duo shared six goals last time out. Spurs should come here and try to get on the front foot, while the likes of Ousmane Dembele will be out to make an impact going forward. As a result, we’re backing a high scoring clash between these two. While over 2.5 goals starts at 1/2 with Coral, we think over 3.5 at 6/5 with bet365 is the best bet here.

Head to Head Record

Barca were completely dominant when these two sides met back in October, with Lionel Messi in sparkling form. The hosts will be looking to continue an unbeaten record against Tottenham, and the bookies clearly see them coming away with another result. This will be the third encounter between the two sides in 2018, which goals likely in this clash too.
