We have a clear frontrunner early on, with Cracksman coming into this one as the favourite. Based on the bookies odds, Crystal Ocean is going to run him close this weekend, but is that how it’s going to turn out? Or will we get a surprise contender from further down the betting? We can certainly see some value in Saturday’s race, starting with the favourite.

Cracksman is the favourite to scoop the £1.3 million prize for a reason. He did just finish up second at his last Ascot outing, but trainer John Gosden will be pushing for an improved run here. Overall, he’s placed in all of his last 10 outings, winning seven of those. He’s won five of his last six, which includes this race last season. Gosden will be pushing him for more success in his return, especially with his main rival, Crystal Ocean, coming up short in his last two races.

He started his last two races as heavy favourite, priced at 2/5 and 2/7, so we’re seeing much better value floating around this weekend. We think that Cracksman is a solid bet at 5/6 with bet365, and as a result we’re tipping him for glory this weekend.

Meanwhile, we think it’s worth opposing Crystal Ocean’s place as the main challenger. We can see another emerging, and he’s a fellow Gosden-trained pick. Monarchs Glen could offer the main challenge to Cracksman, even if he’s being written off by the bookies at the moment. Despite that, he does have something going for him. The four-year-old won his last race, which also came at Ascot. He’s now won three of his last four outings, and he’s got to be a contender to place this weekend at least.

However, we could see him going even further than that, and following up his last win with a strong showing here. We’re backing Monarchs Glen to exceed expectations, and challenge Cracksman here. That would give Gosden a great weekend, and it could well do the same for you. Monarchs Glen can be found at 14/1 with bet365 ahead of Saturday’s meeting at Ascot, and we’re going with an each-way stake at that tempting price.
