France v Croatia Preview, World Cup Final, Sunday 15th June 2018, Luzhniki Stadium, Kick off: 4pm
France v Croatia Preview
The World Cup final takes place on Sunday evening, with France and Croatia battling for the trophy. It certainly isn’t the heavyweight final many were predicting, with both sides shock arrivals in the final in their one way. Les Bleus have looked shaky all summer, but will that manner when they fight for the biggest prize in world football?
Top Betting Tip
- Mandzukic to Score – at 9/2 with Betfair
Relevant Stats, Injuries and Suspensions
These two have no suspensions to worry about, as FIFA put an amnesty on yellow cards after the quarter-finals. That leaves the pair close to full strength, although the French do have worries over Djibril Sidibe and Blaise Matuidi. France are also a side who seem to need a chance to settle on a preferred approach, as it feels like their 4-2-3-1 set up is just a temporary feature. While Gareth Southgate stuck his colours to the mast with England’s approach, the French haven’t quite been as certain throughout Didier Deschamps’ time in charge.
It looks like Croatia will stick with the same side which beat England, which is also the side who defeated Argentina 3-0. That fantastic display showed what Croatia were capable of when they ran a game, and they will be a real threat if they can repeat that on Sunday.
France v Croatia Tips
France are odds on for a win on Sunday, they’re priced at 10/11 with Ladbrokes to win this clash in 90 minutes. You can get Croatia at a huge 15/4 with BetVictor, while the draw is 11/5 with Coral. Given that Croatia have drawn their last three in 90 minutes, it wouldn’t be a shock for this one to go to extra time. We think the draw is worth backing, with Croatia looking solid, and given that France have been less than adventurous so far this summer.
We think the one man to watch this weekend is Mario Mandzukic. The forward has been fantastic for Croatia this summer, and he’s now scored in two of their three knockout games. He’s the ultimate big game player, and his experience gives him an edge over a younger French defence. He’s known for his impact on the biggest games, so we think it’s worth backing the Juventus man to score any time at 9/2 with Betfair.
