England v Switzerland Preview – International Friendly, Tuesday 11th September 2018, King Power Stadium
England hope to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to Spain in the UEFA Nations League when they host Switzerland in an international friendly at the King Power Stadium tonight. They will have to do so without sharpshooter Harry Kane, however, as it has been revealed that the Spurs man is set to be rested for this one.
The defeat to Spain at Wembley was their first competitive loss at the stadium since 2007 and Southgate’s first home defeat as manager. With the Swiss warming up for this one with a solid 6-0 drubbing of Iceland in their Nations League opener, the Three Lions could be facing something of test here.
Top Betting Tip
Odds correct at the time of writing and are subject to fluctuations.
While we think the visitors will cause problems for England, we predict the home side will ultimately prevail… but only just. With a more makeshift starting XI, it is likely England will get opened up from time to time and we can see the Swiss getting a goal or two. England’s attacking riches should just about see them over the line though.
Relevant Stats, Injuries and Suspensions
As mentioned, England’s best player Harry Kane is to be rested here, and there are likely to be plenty of other changes besides that one. Kane’s Tottenham colleague Dele Alli has withdrawn from the squad through injury, but another Spurs man Eric Dier is to be handed the captain’s armband for the night.
A bright looking England line-up is also set to include the likes of Jack Butland, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Fabian Delph, James Tarkowski and Danny Welbeck.
The Swiss have a strong squad at the moment, and though they might choose to rest some of their stars, in recent years they have taken friendlies seriously so we still expect a solid line-up from Vladimir Petkovic.
