Croatia v England Preview, World Cup Semi-Final, Wednesday 11th July 2018, Luzhniki Stadium, Kick off: 7pm
England booked their place in the World Cup semi-final with an impressive 2-0 over Sweden on Saturday. They’re in to the last four after coasting past the Swedes, which was in stark contrast to Croatia. They progressed after 120 minutes and penalties against hosts Russia, meaning they’ve played over 250 minutes through their two knockout matches so far. Will England take advantage of that to take up a place in the World Cup final on Sunday?
Top Betting Tip
- Draw – at 21/10 with BetVictor
Relevant Stats, Injuries and Suspensions
England come in to this clash with no suspension worries, although Jamie Vardy is likely to remain out through injury. The Three Lions have kept Harry Kane fit and free off bookings, while Harry Maguire remains a huge threat in the box for them. He’s been the target for 20 England set pieces this summer, the highest of any player at the tournament. That shows how highly they rate his aerial talents, given that he’s won more aerial battles than any other defender this summer, so his price of 14/1 with Betfair to score does look impressive.
Meanwhile, Croatia are at full strength for this clash. That’s despite them having 12 players on a booking following their clash with Russia, with none picking up a second card to rule them out of the semi-final. With a card amnesty from here out, there’s no suspensions for them to worry about.
Croatia v England Tips
Croatia have progressed to the semis after back to back 1-1 draws in the knockout rounds. They’ve claimed penalty shoot-out wins over Denmark and Russia, after struggling to make much of an impact in their opponent’s area. They do have a knack for scoring, and now they meet an England side who have conceded in four of their five matches at the tournament.
We see both teams scoring here, which is good value at 11/10 with Ladbrokes. However, we think that backing the draw is the best option. Croatia have kept things tight so far, and this is England’s biggest test in Russia. We expect the pair to remain level, with a draw priced at 21/10 with bet365. A 1-1 draw seems about right, and that can be found at 5/1 with Coral ahead of Wednesday’s clash.
