Football Tips and Match Preview for Tottenham v Man City, Premier League, 29 October 2018
It was a Champions League round of mixed fortunes for Tottenham and Man City. While Spurs threw away a hard fought lead against PSV, Man City turned in what Pep Guardiola called their best performance under his management.
Spurs now face an uphill battle to remain in the Champions League but they are in the midst of their best ever start to a Premier League season so will be relishing the chance to prove their title credentials when City visit Wembley Stadium on Monday night.

Tottenham v Man City Betting Tips and Preview
Despite Spurs’ excellent form so far in the Premier League you get the feeling that they’re being underestimated again. The fact that they’ve had to battle for some of their wins, the lack of transfer business in the summer and the ongoing problems surrounding the move into their new stadium all makes it feel as though the club is just a couple of bad wins away from a crisis.
From a playing perspective the thing that will most hearten Mauricio Pochettino is the way that players like Erik Lamela, Lucas Moura and Harry Winks have stepped up this season. They’ve shone when given their chance which lessens the blow of the lack of a single summer signing. The pertinent question for Monday night though, is could even a fully strength Tottenham side stop Man City?
Guardiola’s men are just two points behind where they were at this stage of last season having been held to draws by both Wolves and Liverpool. The impressive form of the chasing pack means it’s tighter than ever at the top but at the same time Man City may well be playing better than ever.
City were at their brilliant best against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night. We expect them to control possession but they’ve rarely looked so consistently dangerous when going forwards in Europe. Some pundits claimed the players were motivated to turn in such a high quality performance in response to Guardiola’s suggestion that the team is yet good enough to win the Champions League. Whether that’s true or not, they certainly know they’re good enough to win the Premier League and should pass another very difficult test by extending their winning run over Tottenham to three games at odds of 3/4 with Betfair.
It may be go under the radar given the amount of attacking talent available to both Pochettino and Guardiola but Man City and Tottenham have two of the Premier League’s best defences. Tottenham’s has creaked at times though, especially in the Champions League.
The form of Hugo Lloris and individual mistakes from their otherwise world class centre backs mean Spurs’ front men will need to dig the team out of the odd hole. It’s unclear whether they’ll be able to do that against Man City but they should manage to score at home. This should be an entertaining match so chance a bet on over 3.5 goals at 11/8 with Coral.
