However, the main focus comes up at the top, as Buveur d’Air aims to secure a third straight win in this race. That hasn’t be achieved since 2000, when Istanbraq landed three-in-a-row. The competition appears to be fiercer this time around, and the bookies aren’t all that confident in the returning champion landing more success this week.
Odds and Preview
Buveur d’Air comes into this one having been butted out as the favourite, drifting out to 5/2 with BetVictor for the win. However, December saw him edged out at Kempton in the Christmas Hurdle, losing out to Verdana Blue; who is an interesting 16/1 shot with Ladbrokes ahead of this race.
However, we’re focusing on the new favourite – Apples Jade. The seven-year-old has been cut to 2/1 with bet365, making her a main contender for this one. A great winning streak of late has put her out in front here, after four straight wins dating back to November. She’s won nine of her last 11 outings overall, and we think that this is set to be another strong run from her. We’re also going in with a slighter bigger pick for this one, as we’re going each-way on Sharjah.
The Willie Mullins’ trained six-year-old has put together a strong record over hurdles, and after a few solid results in a row he’s set to be a contender for this one. He comes into this race on the back of a win at the Ryanair Hurdle, while he claimed a success in Punchestown back in November. Despite back to back wins, he can be found at 16/1 with Betfair going into this one, making him a great each-way option.
