Stayers’ Hurdle Tips and Betting Offers, 15:30 at Cheltenham Festival Day Three, 14th March 2024
With the Cheltenham Festival well under way, the highlight of Day Three is the Stayers Hurdle. After an excellent start to the 2024 Festival, we have another wide open featured race here. Ahead of the Stayers Hurdle, here are the latest betting odds and predictions for the race.
Betting Tips
- Faugheen to win – at 4/1 with bet365
- Supasundae each way – at 8/1 with Ladbrokes
Runners and Riders News
This race is expected to be dominated by Paisley Park, who comes here priced up at 13/8 with Ladbrokes to win it. A recent winning run has seen him pushed forward as the main contender, but we have other ideas. We can see a challenge here, especially in a pretty packed out field.
This year’s race is set to beat the 17 runners from last year, and that’s given us plenty of contenders here. That includes a few big options at the bottom of the betting, with Nautical Nitwit at 100/1 with Betfred and Man of Plenty priced at 200/1 with Ladbrokes going into this one.
Odds and Preview
First up, we’re looking at Faugheen to come out of this one with the victory. This may be a more experienced pick, both in terms of the horse and the team behind him. Ruby Walsh is a dab hand at this race. He’s in the saddle here, paired up with trainer Willie Mullins – winner of this race two years on the spin. You have to imagine they’re targeting another success here with the 2024 Champion Hurdle winner.
We’re backing the pair for success in the Stayers Hurdle, following strong showings at Punchestown and Leopardstown. He’s a 4/1 shot with bet365, and that’s our first pick here. For the next one, we’re going with Jessica Harrington trained Supasundae. The third favourite comes into this one priced at 8/1 with William Hill, following an excellent run of form.
After 10 top two finishes in 11 races – finishing third in the other one – Supasundae has put together a fine run going into this one. It’s not that long since he beat Faugheen in the Irish Champion Hurdle, while longtime rival Apples Jade is otherwise engaged elsewhere. We see a gap opening for Supasundae, who represents fine value at 8/1 in our eyes.
Recent Winners
While recent years haven’t been dominated by Ruby Walsh, he comes into this one as the record winner of this race. No jockey has a better record at the Stayers Hurdle than Walsh, who won this race four times between 2009 and 2012. That fine record was followed up by the success with Nichols Canyon in 2024, but will this be victory number six?
- 2018: Penhill – Jockey: Paul Townsend; Trainer: Willie Mullins
- 2017: Nichols Canyon – Jockey: Ruby Walsh; Trainer: Willie Mullins
